The Yamazaki 55-Year-Old

Yamazaki 55-year-old is Suntory’s flagship single malt whisky, from Japan’s first and oldest malt distillery, multi-layered with fruit and Mizunara aromas. However, this is the oldest Yamazaki whisky. It first debuted as a 100-bottle release for the Japanese market in June 2020. Furthermore, Yamazaki 55  was Bottled in 2020. Meanwhile, the House of Suntory’s oldest release in its history- takes us back to the 1960s, a major period of change for the house. At that time, Keizo Saji succeeded his father, founder Shinjiro Torii as the House’s Second-Generation Master Blender, and the company Kotobukiya was renamed Suntory. In addition, The Yamazaki 55 is a blend of single malts that includes distillate from back in 1960, where it was distilled and aged in Mizunara casks under the watch of Shinjiro Torii, the founder of Suntory.

Official Tasting Notes:

Nose: Sandalwood, well-ripened fruit.

Palate: Sweet, slightly bitter notes, unfolding to a touch of wood from the Mizunara casks.

Finish: Rich and sweet, with slight bitterness, and a hint of smokiness.

In conclusion, The bottle itself is made of crystal engraved with the name “Yamazaki” and lacquered with gold dust. The mouth of the bottle is packaged in handmade washi paper from Echizen and bound with a Kyo-kumihimo plaited cord traditionally from Kyoto.
