A 1946 vintage Macallan, aged for 56 years (so bottled around 2002) and released as part of their Fine & Rare range of vintaged whiskies. The period immediately post-WWII is considered one of Macallan’s finest, with more smokey aromas and flavours in the barley as a result of increased peat use for distillation.
1946 The Macallan Select Reserve
This Macallan 1946 select reserve is rather unusual, in that it was made with peated malt due to the high post-war prices of coal. It also happens to be one of the greatest Macallans ever released in our opinion. The initial release of this was quite large and took a while for the distillery to sell, but it is now recognized as a classic Macallan, and its reputation is assured.
Distillery Information
The Macallan distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Craigellachie, Moray. The Macallan Distillers Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Edrington Group which purchased the brand from Highland Distillers in 1999.
A truly stunning bottle of Macallan was distilled in 1946 and matured for over half a century until bottling. Presented in a gorgeous wooden box under lock and key. Complete with certificate.
